Professor Gholam Hossein Gharib _Kereshmeh Gharib 2006


Writer, poet, musician, clarinetist, born in Tehran, (1922-2005)
He was the head of Tehran conservatory about 20 years.
1938 He entered conservatory and learnt clarinet from Czechoslovakian musicians and studied harmony with Parviz Mahmoud ,later he commenced cooperation with his teacher(Parviz Mahmoud) in the orchestra.1939 He participated in an ethnomusicology project of The Iranian Art and Culture Organization with Lotf Ollah Mobashery and cooperate gathering folklore and local songs of different ethnic groups of Iran. He also joined The Tehran council Orchestra Symphonic as the first Iranian clarinetist. In 1945 He published his first collection of poems i.e. Sareban (Cameleer) with the edition of his friend (the great Iranian poet) Nima Yushij.

Khooroosjangy(Fighting-Cock)1328(1948): He organized and established “Khooroosjangy” Fighting-Cock community with the assistance of Jalil Ziapour, Hasan Shirvany and Manouchehr Sheibani. They published the “Khooroosjangy” magazine in five issues.Khooroosjangy was the literary journal of the time.The Fighting Cock was published in a period when such values as political commitment and social idealism were at their height in the Iranian intellectual community. 1951 Houshang Irany joined the community. Journal transformed into a radical modernist literary journal.The second period of publishing of the “Khooroosjangy” magazine started.The Fighting Cock swam against the current and rejected the commitment of artists to anything but artistic innovation and the group presented the “Khooroosjangy” art manifesto under the title of(Salakhe Bolbol) “Slaughters of Nightingale” (This manifesto was a struggle against old and static artistic methods for the new and dynamic ones).As the Khooroosjangy manifesto specifies :The new art opposes all the claims of the followers of art for society’s sake, art for art’s sake ,art for … Also let the artists of Khooroosjangy will challenge the publication of outdated and banal works in fiercest possible way. (Analyctic History of Modernist Persian Poetry by Shams Langerudi)In 1953 He published a collection of poem and prose titled as “Shekaste Hamaseh” (Epic failure). He cooperated with Sohrab Sepehry and Abolghasem Masudy in the “HONAR NU” and “APADANA” magazines. He went to Italy in order to study and practice more wind instruments such as clarinet and saxophone. After returning from overseas he was offered the presidency of conservatory of Iran. He had the responsibility of this position for 20 years. 1960 He published a story collection, “GHESSEH GUYE MEIDAN E POR AFTAB” (The story teller of Sunlight Filled square), 1970 and published “Khune Mehr” (The blood of affection). 1971 He retired from the presidency of conservatory and occupied a position of head master in the Ministry of Culture and Art. 1979 Retired from all formal occupations and began teaching clarinet and saxophone until 2003.
1997 Met Hiva Massih (poet, writer, and philosopher) who opened a new path in his artistic life. In 1998 he created “Daf zan Hezar chashmeh Atash “(Tambourine player of thousand fire fountain).”In 1999 published Bagh e Khoda (The Lord’s Garden) His old friend, Iranian modern composer Alireza Mashayekhy composed a piece with the same name and dedicated to Gharib.
2001 Sareban (Cameleer) revising with Hiva Massih’s preface.
2003-2005: He past two years illness and finally started a new journey.He left us but he is alive forever.
